The Absolutely Erotic Blog Hop -- Interview with Erika Lindsen

Welcome to a stop on the Absolutely Erotic Blog Hop, where we’re showcasing erotica and erotic romance authors from the Absolute Write forums. Each day, interviews will be posted, and when it’s all said and done, some lucky commenter will win a huge prize!  Click here for the entire blog schedule and details about the contents of the prize, and how to win an armload of ebooks, a $25 Amazon gift card, and more.

Today, I’m hosting Erika Lindsen.

1.      Tell us a little about your latest release(s). What inspired the book? What genre/subgenre? Heaven’s Core is science fiction with tons of romance. I know your readers want to know, so yes, there is sex, but fade to black. It’s about a cyborg, Hannibal, who works for a special ops group called the Core. Their job is to kill Rebel humans and aliens that oppose peace between the two species. Hannibal decides freedom is the way to go and finds the girl that shows him he was right. Problem is, she’s a Rebel.

I was inspired from watching so many kick-ass swordsman that I needed to write one. The most recent was Raiden from Metal Gear Rising.
2.      What genres/subgenres do you usually write, and why? Are there any you’d like to try but haven’t yet?  I usually do paranormal, but lately I’ve been into sci-fi. Once in a while I do contemporary, but I like the added element of something supernatural.
3.      Do you listen to music when you write? Tell us about your musical choices. If I had to choose three songs for Heaven’s Core, they’d be Shinedown “Diamond eyes”, James Durbin “Higher than Heaven” and Billy Talent’s “Wicked”. Those songs really got me in my groove.
4.      Is there any topic you find taboo?  Billionaire BDSM? Just kidding. There are things I get sick of seeing but I’m game for lots.
5.      Let’s say you’re talking to a writer who’s never written any erotica, but would like to. What advice would you offer?  Experience is best!
6.      The single biggest pitfall for most writers seems to be procrastination. How do you keep yourself disciplined and on-task?  I set deadlines for myself. The thing that’s kept me on track most lately has been my ferret Vash. I have to let him run out of his cage for a few hours so I take that time to write.
7.      Every book has its own challenges. Tell us the biggest challenges you encountered while writing this book.  I wanted to keep Hannibal sensitive, even though he can totally kill with no problem. It was hard to keep him in line and keep that vulnerability at the surface.
8.       Out of all of your characters, who is your favorite and why? (If you have more than one, feel free to talk about each of them)  That’s hard. I enjoy Kat from my Bloodlust Series. She has such a smart mouth and swears like nobody’s business. She speaks what’s on her mind and I envied writing her ability to do that. I also love Tez and Hannibal’s relationship. Very complex yet simple.

9.  Have you ever encountered a specific “type” of erotic content that was difficult for you to write? Tell us about that.  I write erotic romance under the name Anais Morgan (check me out!). I think anything is hard to write if there isn’t the research backing it up. Also, the emotion it takes to put into a sex scene. So many people think erotica=porn, which is not true. It can be, but not usually. Giving characters that extra pizzazz of emotion can be hard while keeping it sexy.
10.  What are the best and worst parts of being an author?  The best is getting to know and create a world and characters. I love getting to know someone knew, meeting them and the intimate relationship it takes to write the book. The worst is the promotional aspects. I really hate tweeting stuff and all that.
11.  What is the single best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received? Never give up and write from your heart, both said to me by Eden Bradley
12.  What are you working on now? What can readers look for from you in the future? I’ve signed a contract with Total E-Bound for my erotic romance Touch of the Camera. It comes out In October. Models and photographers=delicious. That’s under Anais Morgan. Under Erika Lindsen I have Awakening the Elements, a sci-fi romance, and At the bullet’s tip comes out in July (erotic romantic suspense).
13.  What was your proudest moment as an author? Each sale I get really makes me happy. I hope I entertain readers.
14.  Tell us something completely random about you or your books. Random about me? That could get…Random! Lol about my books is that my most successful books have taken me the least amount of time to write.

Visit Erika's website for more information about her, as well as her upcoming releases.

  1. Hannibal is a wonderful name! So is Vash, lol! Perhaps you can name a character after your ferret?

    1. Thanks. Naming characters is always a challenge. In Heaven's Core I wanted the Core to be named after serial killers. Hannibal's best friend is Manson. Tez is named after Mother Teresa.

I got Vash from the anime Trigun. It would be hard to name a character after such an iconic guy, but it is tempting.

    1. Hi Melanie. I like to base my worlds in more contemporary settings. Heaven's Core takes place in 2064 so I imagine not much has changed, yet it has, if that makes sense. The aliens have changed the world of medicine-cancers are cured, diabetes, ect. I have a weird imagination. I have been getting a ton of inspiration from anime lately-think Trigun.
